Luscious linseed tea and staying hydrated

Staying hydrated with luscious linseed tea is a great addition to anyone’s healthy daily routine. The problem is that often when people make their first batch they stare horrified at the viscous texture and refuse to drink it. Which is a shame because linseed tea is soothing on so many counts.

Good nutrition starts in the digestive system and over time the colon becomes encrusted with all kinds of ‘stuff’. Imagine a pipe caked in sludge. Now imagine that you continue to pour waste into it. Overtime part of what your pour in will attach to the matter that is already there and the rest will find its exit route getting more and more hindered.

Given that at the time of writing this I am 55, there will be without doubt a bit of unwanted things clinging to the walls of my colon.  I have no idea what is caked on the inside of my colon, but when I think of the kinds of things I have eaten over the years I shudder.

Since June of this year, when I revised how I drink water so that I am properly hydrated and have noticed that I am less dry (e.g. hands and lips). However, my colon feels hard in places and is a little swollen. I know on an emotional level that there are things that I have had a ‘gutsful’ of and things that I am holding onto. From a psychological perspective, I can work on these. From a physical standpoint, I can cleanse my colon and do everything I can to hydrate and soothe it. Nott only that I can do things like visualise my colon being cleansed and soothed with the linseed tea.

With the emotional work underway, my next step was to drink water the right way and then create a healthy environment for the water to have a better chance of being absorbed. Something that does this rather well is linseed tea.

Linseed tea creates a mucous layer that acts as an absorbent gel. Meaning that it catches the water and instead of the water simply running off a dry colon it lets the water slowly get absorbed. So giving you a better chance to rehydrate slowly.

All well and good, but if you have a horrible caked up colon you find that it will take longer for the rehydration process to happen. But never fear it will. Good old linseeds can help you there too. By drinking just a teaspoon of linseeds that have soaked for a few hours before bed, they will scrub the walls of the colon while you are slumbering.

How to make linseed tea

The quick way

1 desert spoon of linseeds
1 litre of water ( I usually add more)

Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes, strain and drink a cup tea 2-3 times daily

The overnight way

1 desert spoon of linseeds

Bring to the boil, cover and leave overnight. In the morning bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes, strain and drink a cup tea 2-3 times daily

What are linseeds aka flaxseeds?

The cultivation of linseeds has been traced back to 8000 BCE, from then to around 1400 BCE it was used to make linen and as an embalming oil. By 1000 BCE it was used in baking bread, anyone who is a vegan knows that you can use soaked linseeds as an egg replacer. One can only imagine the flavour of this nutty unleavened bread. By 1995 linseeds have become a functional food as well as continuing to yield fibres from the stalks to make linen.

To avoid confusion the flax variety is used to make linen and the linseed variety to utilise the seeds and to make oil, however, we interchange the names. Please never drink linseed oil that is used by artists for painting – it’s not pleasant… What you will find on the shelves of your supermarket or health food store is flax seed oil – confusing isn’t given that flax is for linen. But hey ho. You buy linseeds (brown and golden) to make your tea, as an egg replacer, in crackers and bread and as a way to cleanse your colon. You buy flax seed oil to use in your cooking and to drink for its health benefits.

Its seeds are full of nutrients, especially omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are both polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that the body is unable to produce but which are necessary for human health.

Never eat the seeds without first soaking as this will dry the body rather than nourish and hydrate.

What we are looking for is to use this tea to help us to hydrate and to reap the benefits of all of the nutrients. You will find over time that you will come to enjoy the tea, knowing that it is helping to water and oil the body, reduce inflammation and supporting the elimination of toxins.
