Listen to your heart and connect to the book you want to write

What will it mean to you to write the right book for you?

Listening to your heart and letting it speak is connecting to your inner wisdom, your spiritual self, intuition and insight. It is the part of you that truly knows you and what your soul purpose is, but which may be hidden from you. When you are ungrounded and unbalanced your connection to you will waiver. It’s a little like tuning into a radio station, you need to fiddle with the dial until you get a clear and strong signal.

To get to the inner you, you need to switch off the noise in your head and feel your way through your body. Really connect to the heart and soul container that is the human system. Feeling is often difficult for many who naturally connect to their heads, and constantly question what is going on. This is something that I have struggled with, but with time and practice is does get easier to travel inwards and see, sense, feel, and just know what is going on.

Trying to find balance in your life and business can sometimes be tough. To find balance you have to consider what goes into the mix and how each of those things might balance each other. In financial terms we balance debits and credits, which means that there could be lots of debits against one credit or vice versa, but either way the equation balances. The equation works because it is grounded in common sense.

Being balanced is being grounded. Being grounded is about feeling connected to you and having connection with the present, with the core of who you are and staying centred on what you do. When you are grounded and open to the universe you become a channel for universal energy to connect to.

Stop for a moment and feel where you are, what do you notice?

Being connected to the inner you, means that you are listening in an inattentive yet focused way to what your body, heart and soul needs. When this happens you allow yourself to become connected to everything and nothing and at the same time be open to ideas and imaginations.

Being connected to the inner you is also about accepting and loving you, warts and all. When you learn to take responsibility for you and your feelings, you gain personal power.

Your power is in holding yourself accountable for your choices and actions. Being grounded allows you to connect to the inner you which means taking action and making choices. When you get feedback from your choices that helps you to improve what you do and how you do it.

Your power is in knowing you. When you have faith in who you are and feel grounded and connected to your purpose you have power. There are too many people out there, well intentioned or otherwise who make it their business to tell you who you are and what you should be doing, including what book you should write. Staying grounded in your now and feeling connected to your inner knowing and self, will help you present a consistent focused personal brand with your inspirational message.

Your power is in the now. When you truly focus (in an inattentive way) on what you are doing right now, you will achieve so much more. Things pop up which distract you. I know it happens to me. I love new and exciting and sometimes I get a bit waylaid. My spontaneity gets the better of me and I am gone. Which you could argue is about enjoying the now, however, it also means chaos. Being in the now disrupts the chaos, brings calm and focus and a certain contentment. Being in the now means getting grounded to complete what needs to be done now. Consistent focused action leads to results.

Writing the right book

To write the right book for you, you need to connect to your heart and listen what it is saying to you. Of course there is nothing writing a book about nutrition, but what if your purpose were to connect to post menopausal women and empower them through great nutrition to live amazing lives – that would be a very different book.

Listen, what do you hear, see and feel?

Then you need to feel that this is the right book. By that I mean not a book that you can write in 30 days (though you could), but a book that may take a bit more time, but FEELS really connected to you and makes you smile when you think about getting it out there.

Create a vision of what having this heart & soul centred book will mean to your life and personal brand.

Take action. Get a pen and paper and write the title of this book, no thinking – just write. Follow that with what it is about, why you are writing it,Β who your one reader is and what will this mean to your personal brand?.

If and when you are ready, I am here to help you get those ideas out of your head, connect to our hearts so that you get the best book for you.

  1. Yes, Yes and Yes!! I identify SO strongly with everything you say here and I think one of the reasons my own book has stalled a little of late is that I have so many ideas that I lose focus on who I’m writing it for – so thank you for the timely reminder!

  2. Most of the books that I have published to date came from ideas that a publisher had; these were all great books to write, but there are definitely several book ideas that I’d like to focus on because they are topics that matter to me.

What I find that I do is this: to schedule so much paying writing work that I don’t leave enough time to do the type of writing that I want to do. In fact, that’s one of my goals in 2014: to shift that balance somewhat.

    Thanks for this post!

  3. What a lovely meditation to clear the head for writing!

I can see using this when getting stuck in the middle of writing to help ground you into the reasons you write and the audience and voice of the piece.

Heading to add this to my buffer to share!

  4. I appreciate that you highlight inner connection, because I feel like it has everything to do with your purpose for investing your heart & soul into a piece of work. I agree that spontaneity can result in chaos and that structure is important. Structure in a seemingly unrelated aspect can be completely related to your mentality and focus. I recently started a regimen of physical activity and healthy eating. A healthier life-style has resulted in a clearer mindset. I have a brighter outlook on my future and a renewed confidence. Thanks for the insightful read.

  5. Sound advice. I believe this is why so many people find themselves with writers block–they fail to write “their” book and instead choose to write something that is what they believe will be popular or might sell or that their friends might approve of. When a writer follows this advice, they will find themselves creating characters whose lives will enchant them–they won’t be able to break away without dwelling on what will happen next and will find themselves struggling to get back to their computers and word-processors so they can live a bit longer with their characters.
